Cold Palmer: The Origin Story
Every great number 10 has an origin myth. Cole Palmer's involves a shiver. Raised in Wythenshawe, Manchester, he came through the City academy alongside a certain Morgan Rogers - and it was there the two invented the arms-crossed, shoulders-shaking "Cold Palmer" celebration as a joke between mates. The joke grew up. When Chelsea signed Palmer in summer 2023, few expected what followed: 22 Premier League goals in his debut season, four goals in a single half against Brighton, penalties converted with the pulse of a man reading a menu. Ice, everywhere.
The 2023-24 home shirt with Palmer 20 - where the legend started
That first Chelsea shirt - royal blue, Palmer 20 on the back - is already a modern classic: the jersey of the breakout nobody saw coming, worn when he announced himself to the world and scored in the Euro 2024 final against Spain months later. For collectors it is the "rookie card" of the Cold Palmer story.
The Number 10 and the Rebuild
In 2025-26 Palmer took the shirt his status demanded: the Chelsea number 10. The season that followed tested the ice - a groin injury cost him two months, the team cycled through three managers, and Chelsea finished 10th. The cold stayed cold: he still hit double figures in goals while carrying the creative burden almost alone.
Then came the reset. Xabi Alonso arrived as manager in summer 2026 with a four-year plan and no European football to clutter the calendar - and the club answered the transfer market with the loudest statement possible: Morgan Rogers for a club-record fee. The two academy mates who invented the shivering celebration, reunited in blue. The story writes itself, and Palmer is under contract until 2033 to keep writing it.
Trophies Written in Gold
Strip away the noise and the trophy cabinet already glitters. In July 2025 Palmer produced one of the great final performances: two goals and Player of the Match as Chelsea beat PSG 3-0 to win the Club World Cup. He lifted the Conference League the same year, reached the Euro 2024 final with England, and won the U21 Euros in 2023 with the assist that decided it. That is why the current Chelsea shirt carries the gold World Champions badge - won largely by the number 10 now wearing it.
The numbers off the pitch match the ones on it. Palmer's shirt has been the best-selling jersey on Chelsea's official store, his four-goal Brighton match-worn shirt sold at auction for £34,411, and he owns a registered trademark on his own celebration. When you wear Palmer 10, you are wearing the club's most marketable - and most cold-blooded - asset.
The 2026-27 Shirt: Can't Tame Us
Nike's 2026-27 Chelsea home shirt is the boldest blue Stamford Bridge has seen in years - bright blue with Midwest Gold accents on the crest and swoosh, finished with a button collar and the redesigned Ted Drake lion crest celebrating 75 seasons, woven directly into an Aero-FIT fabric made from 100% recycled textile waste. The campaign says "Can't Tame Us". The number 10 on the back says it louder.
