The Big Story: Defending Champions, Winning Nothing

Strip away the noise and PSG's start is genuinely historic — for the wrong reasons. They beat Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup on 12 August, then lost the Trophée des Champions to Lens five days later, Florian Thauvin's goal enough for a ten-man Lens side that defended a 1-0 for an hour. A 2-2 draw at Rennes on opening Sunday followed — and then, on Friday night in Lille, the strangest one of all.

1. PSG — champions in trouble, still champions (Opta: 68.1%) — Six straight titles is the target, and no side in France matches this squad's ceiling.
