The Centenary Year

AS Roma enter their 100th season with greater ambition than at any point in the last decade. The club will compete in four competitions: Serie A, the Champions League, Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana. Season-ticket sales have surged, and the prospect of midweek European nights under the floodlights has rekindled enthusiasm not seen in the capital in years. The Friedkin family, who have injected approximately EUR 1 billion into the club, are targeting reinforcements to capitalise on the centenary momentum.

Champions League Return

Roma are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2018-19, ending an eight-year absence. Gasperini has been candid about the hierarchy: "If we manage to stay up there year after year, then we can think about the scudetto. For now, the objective is to consolidate our place in the Champions League and go as deep as possible." The veteran tactician gathered 28 players for the first training session, with the squad expected to be bolstered before the September 1 transfer deadline.

Dybala's Commitment

Few moves carry as much symbolic weight as Paulo Dybala's decision to extend his stay. The 32-year-old Argentine turned down a EUR 25M-per-season offer from Saudi club Al-Qadsiah and agreed to slash his Roma wages from EUR 6.5M to roughly EUR 2.5M net plus bonuses. "Being able to defend the Roma shirt is a privilege for me," Dybala said after inking the deal through June 2027. The renewal removes a cloud of uncertainty and allows Gasperini to build around his talisman.
