Where the League Stands After Two Rounds
The opening fortnight produced the tightest top six the division has seen in years. Updated 2 September 2026.
Roma are the machine. Eight scored, none conceded, and Donyell Malen — the former PSV and Dortmund forward — already on five goals after a hat-trick against Fiorentina and a brace against Lecce. Inter are the favourites, grinding. Matchday 2 rewrote the middle of the table. Newly promoted Como — in their first-ever Champions League season under Cesc Fàbregas — went to Naples and won 2-1, a result that dumped Massimiliano Allegri's Napoli into mid-table and sent the whole league's eyebrows north. AC Milan are perfect under Rúben Amorim, Juventus have won two without conceding, Lazio have ground out back-to-back 1-0s under Gennaro Gattuso, and Atalanta round out the six-team pile-up. The Season in Three Tiers
Title race. Six clubs on six points is a statistical curiosity, not a permanent state. Inter remain the favourites on squad depth and history, Roma are the form side, and Juventus' two clean sheets under a new-look back line make them the quietest serious contender. Milan and Atalanta will have something to say; Lazio's grinding 1-0s feel less sustainable than the rest.
European race. Como's Champions League money is already showing, Udinese are the early overachievers on four points, and Napoli — under Allegri — have the quality to climb fast once the new shape settles. Torino, Bologna and Genoa are all on zero and already looking over their shoulders rather than up.
Relegation battle. Fiorentina are the shock of the season so far — zero points and a 0-7 goal difference that no amount of early-season caveats can dress up. Promoted Monza (3:7) and Venezia (0:4) are also winless, and Parma and Genoa sit on zero with goalless troubles of their own. It is far too early to write anyone off, but the Viola's start has already set alarm bells ringing in Florence.
The Malen Show — and the Fairytale in Como
Two storylines have defined the opening fortnight. The first is Donyell Malen, who arrived in Rome with a point to prove and is currently the most in-form striker in the league: five goals in two games, the kind of hot streak that re-prices a shirt mid-season. The second is Como, a club that finished fourth last season to reach the Champions League for the first time in its history, then doubled down with loan signings Moise Kean and Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez. Their 2-1 win at the Maradona was the round's loudest statement — a reminder that in this Serie A, the old order is no longer a guarantee.
