Bayern are the machine. A 5-1 dismantling of Stuttgart — with Joshua Kimmich pulling the strings and laying on two assists — was the statement the champions wanted on opening night. It was also the loudest possible launch for Harry Kane's bid to win a fourth consecutive golden boot, a feat nobody has managed in the modern era. His 36-goal seasons in 2023-24 and 2025-26 are the benchmark; every shirt with his name on it just got a little more expensive.
The promoted sides came to play. Elversberg, a club whose entire story is built on punching above its weight, beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 in the shock of the round. Title race. Bayern are the favourites by every metric, and a 5-1 opener does nothing to change that. The real question is whether anyone can sustain a challenge — Dortmund under new management, a Leverkusen side stung on day one, and an RB Leipzig that won 3-0 all have the talent, but the consistency gap to Bayern has been the story of the league for years.
European race. Freiburg, Augsburg, Köln and Frankfurt all started with wins, and Union Berlin, Mainz and Paderborn have points on the board. With Bayern likely to vacuum up the top spot, the race for the European places is where the real drama will live — and it is wide open after two rounds.

Kane's Chase — and the Return of Schalke
Two storylines will carry the season. The first is Harry Kane, who has won the last three golden boots (36, 26, then 36 again) and is chasing a fourth straight — a run of consistency no modern Bundesliga striker has matched. Serhou Guirassy at Dortmund and Deniz Undav at Stuttgart are the men most likely to push him.
