Real Madrid — fifteen-time kings of Europe, two wins into the Mourinho resurrection, three Mbappé goals and counting — hosted Inter Milan at the Bernabéu to open the 2026-27 Champions League — and won it 2-1. The fixture-list gods have a sense of humour: the man who won Inter the 2010 treble, still spoken of in Milan with the reverence usually reserved for Renaissance painters, stood in the opposite technical area. Matchday 1's opening night kicked off at 21:00 CEST — 8pm in the UK, and a rare friendly 3pm ET / 12pm PT for North American fans, who usually sacrifice sleep for this competition. Those two slots then run all season. In the United States every match streams on Paramount+ — CBS holds the English-language rights through 2029-30 — with a handful simulcast on CBS Sports Network and the free CBS Sports Golazo Network, and Spanish-language coverage on ViX, TUDN, Univision and UniMas. Everywhere else it is a different subscription, and it is worth checking before you buy: most of these deals expire in May 2027.

The Watch Party, Planned
A heavyweight opener deserves better than scrolling a phone on the couch. The formula is simple and it scales from two people to twenty:
Set the tables by team. One side of the room gets Madrid colours — white shirt draped over the armrest, tapas on the plate, whatever Spanish supermarket lager you can find. Matchday 2: Tuesday 13 & Wednesday 14 October 2026
Matchday 2 lands straight after the international break, and it does not ease anyone in. Manchester City vs Paris Saint-Germain on the Wednesday night is the heavyweight of the round — the reigning champions travel to the Etihad having opened with a 6-1 at home to Slovan Bratislava. Twenty-four hours earlier, José Mourinho takes Real Madrid back to the Stadio Olimpico to face Roma. Nine games Tuesday, nine Wednesday: the same 18-game rhythm as the opening week.
UEFA runs two slots per night through the league phase. The early window kicks at 18:45 CEST; everything else at 21:00 CEST. For American fans that is a lunchtime kick and an afternoon matinee — the friendliest time-zone draw in club football.

One note on the clocks. Matchdays 2 and 3 (13-14 and 20-21 October) run on CEST, BST and EDT. From Matchday 4 (3-4 November) Europe is on CET and the United States on EST — but the wall-clock times do not move: still 18:45 and 21:00 CET, which is 17:45 and 20:00 in the UK, 12:45pm and 3:00pm on the US East Coast and 9:45am and 12:00pm on the West Coast. Set the alarm once and it stays set for the rest of the league phase.
Three names carry the round. Kylian Mbappe sits on 71 Champions League goals and goes back to the Stadio Olimpico with Real Madrid; Erling Haaland takes 59 goals in 59 games into Manchester City's meeting with Paris Saint-Germain; Harry Kane arrives in Norway with an eight-game UCL scoring streak to protect; and Lamine Yamal travels to Istanbul with Barcelona, fresh off becoming the competition's most productive teenager.
